South Palm Canyond Drive in Palm Springs, CA with palm trees and Modernism Week banner

Thanks to its prominent corner location and strikingly Modern design, the Berman-Rubin Residence is one of the most recognizable homes in the Indian Canyons neighborhood. Originally built in 1964 as the retirement home of Air Force General Clarence S. Irvine, the home is one of the more notable designs of Kenneth M. Burgess. He was responsible for designing the majority of the homes on Yosemite Drive and the legendary Canyon Hotel, one of the most glamorous resorts in Palm Springs during the 1960s and 1970s. This gloriously preserved home graces the cover of Canyon Country Club: History and Design of Palm Springs' Garden of Eden, published by the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation. The book's author, PSPF board member Steve Treinen, will be on hand to sign books and meet tourgoers who are just now able to learn about Burgess' work in Palm Springs. (Copies of the book will be available for purchase.)

To learn more about the history and design of Canyon Country Club, consider attending Treinen’s presentation on the topic during PSPF’s Free Lecture Series on Friday, October 17, 2025.

The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to educate and promote public awareness of the importance of preserving the historical resources and architecture of the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area.” PSPF offers free membership as a public benefit.
