Modernism Week Star Dedication for Elizabeth Edwards Harris

Please join Modernism Week for a special Palm Springs Walk of Stars dedication ceremony honoring humanitarian, philanthropist, and architectural historian Elizabeth Edwards Harris, Ph.D. This dedication ceremony is a tribute to Dr. Harris's integral role as a community advocate for preservation and her significant impact on the resurgence of Modernism in Palm Springs.

Starting in 1993, she led the restoration of the iconic 1947 Richard Neutra Kaufmann House. The restoration of the Kaufmann House by Dr. Harris and her former husband, completed in 1998, is widely recognized as a key factor in establishing Palm Springs as a premier destination for midcentury Modern architecture. This was followed by significant rehabilitation of houses designed by Modernists William Lescaze, Carlton Winslow Jr., and Morphosis. In recent years, she has focused on research and writing about affordable housing design solutions. She continues to support initiatives of the Palm Springs Art Museum–including significant funding for the recently completed reconstruction of Albert Frey’s 1931 Aluminaire House.

Special guests and friends of Dr. Harris will speak about her passion for preservation and her many achievements. This event is open to the public and will occur at the Palm Springs Art Museum Architecture and Design Center, Edwards Harris Pavilion, opened in 2014, named for Dr. Harris. Please note that seating is limited for this outdoor event.
