Canyon View Estates Magnificent Modernism

Canyon View Estates, designed by William Krisel and built by Roy Fey in 1961–66, is one of the most photographed, documented, and magnificent midcentury communities in the country. With architectural details such as double-gable roofs, clerestory windows, shadow blocks, open carports, cul de sacs, and spectacular wire-free panoramic views of the mountains, this community is the epitome of the Palm Springs School of Architecture. It has been featured in numerous films, photo shoots, books, and design publications worldwide.

You’ll tour 7 iconic Krisel homes in this 180-unit condominium community in south Palm Springs and see how individual owners have adapted each for indoor/outdoor Modern living. You’ll also gain entry to the resident-only common spaces that make Canyon View Estates unique—acres of open space with pools, yards, and newly added desert landscaping.

And the views! Surrounded by mountains, with no electrical wires, Canyon View Estates is a magnificent place to live and visit. Walking through the neighborhood from home to home, you’ll catch different view corridors and detailed images that are a photographer’s dream. It’s no wonder the 2022 movie Don’t Worry Darling was filmed here, and you'll recognize other locations from design publications and fashion shoots. Many artists have captured the spirit of Canyon View Estates in their work, which you’ll see during the tour. Bring your camera, and dress in 60s attire—we’ll have classic cars, models, and fun surprises to give you everything you need to capture your moments of magnificent Modernism.
