Go behind the construction fence for an exclusive glimpse of the Palm Springs Public Library's restoration and evolution, preserving William F. Cody's Modernist vision for generations to come. Tour

Step behind the construction fence for a rare architectural experience at the Palm Springs Public Library. Closed to the public during its transformation, the library will open its doors for a limited series of guided behind-the-scenes tours, offering an exclusive glimpse inside one of William F. Cody’s final designs.

This unique opportunity allows guests to experience the library’s thoughtful restoration and renewal while work is still underway. Explore spaces before they are completed and discover how the project carefully preserves the building’s architectural integrity while thoughtfully reconfiguring interiors to better support the ways people learn, gather, create and connect today—and for generations to come. The tour highlights the project’s careful stewardship of this Modernist landmark, balancing historic preservation with contemporary functionality to ensure the library remains a vibrant community resource.

Guests will gain insight into the restoration process, learn more about the building’s original 1970s design by renowned architect William F. Cody and discover the architectural features being preserved and celebrated as part of the library’s next chapter. With the building still closed during construction, this behind-the-scenes experience offers a rare opportunity to witness a landmark in transition before it reopens to the public.

Please note: the last tour of the day offers an enhanced experience, meeting and talking with Cathy Cody, daughter of the Architect, a sparkling cider toast and light refreshments and a commemorative gift.

Whether you are passionate about architecture, historic preservation, design or Palm Springs history, this exclusive experience offers a unique perspective on the care, craftsmanship and vision behind preserving a beloved civic landmark.

Presented by the Palm Springs Public Library Foundation, these tours are a fundraiser supporting the Foundation’s mission to enhance library programs, collections and community engagement. Your participation helps preserve and strengthen one of Palm Springs’ most treasured civic institutions for generations to come!
