Enjoy a rare chance to see three of architectural designer Herbert Burns’ sublime residential designs. The beautifully detailed Merrill & Juanita Crockett Residence (1952) is an intact example of the Late Moderne style, an aesthetic that featured simple yet sophisticated architecture. The Crockett Residence was designated a Class 1 Historic Resource in July 2021. The George & Sadie Gillman Residence (1948) is an extraordinary piece of residential architecture with a fascinating preservation story. Gutted and abandoned, the property was purchased by Thomboy Properties who enlisted PSPF board member Steven Keylon to consult during the restoration. The Gillman Residence was designated a Class 1 Historic Resource in May of 2022. The extravagant Madge Phillips Residence (1959) is the result of a unique collaboration between Burns and his client –a partnership that managed to elevate his already glamorous design to a new level, introducing materials and finishes more luxurious than his typical palette.

As a special treat, Steven Keylon, author of PSPF’s popular 84-page book, The Design of Herbert W. Burns, will be available to sign copies of the Burns book which may be purchased by tour goers at a special, discounted price of only $10 each!

To learn more about the work of architectural designer Herbert Burns, consider attending Keylon’s presentation on the topic during PSPF’s Free Lecture Series on Friday, October 17, 2025.

The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to educate and promote public awareness of the importance of preserving the historical resources and architecture of the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area.” PSPF offers free membership as a public benefit.
