Blue Skies Village: Behind the Gates of a Hollywood Hideaway

Go behind the gates of Blue Skies Village for a two-mile walking tour of six interiors, a hidden garden, outdoor spaces, iconic homes, and William F. Cody's clubhouse in this storied Hollywood retreat.

Blue Skies Village comes to February Modernism Week for the first time! Go behind the gates of one of the desert’s most intriguing communities—Blue Skies Village, founded by Bing Crosby in the early 1950s as a private retreat for Hollywood’s elite. This exclusive Modernism Week experience is a walking interior and exterior tour offering rare access to a midcentury “luxury trailer village” that blends architectural charm, Hollywood history and relaxed desert living.

Guests will enjoy interior tours of six mobile homes showcasing a range of styles, from residences retaining their original midcentury character to thoughtfully updated and creatively reimagined homes. Along the way, explore outdoor living spaces, patios, landscaping and the easy indoor-outdoor lifestyle synonymous with desert living.

A highlight of the tour is the opportunity to experience the William F. Cody-designed clubhouse, created between 1953 and 1956 and an important part of the community’s architectural legacy. Guests can also enjoy views of the pool, landscaped grounds and community amenities while strolling the neighborhood and experiencing its distinctive layout and atmosphere.

Originally known as Blue Skies Trailer Village, the community was conceived during Bing Crosby’s time in Palm Springs as a refined yet relaxed desert escape for friends and fellow entertainers. Its Hollywood heritage remains woven throughout the neighborhood, with streets named for early residents and investors including Jack Benny, George Burns and Barbara Stanwyck. Historic photographs displayed during the tour will offer another glimpse into the celebrities, personalities and stories that helped shape this unique desert enclave.

In celebration of Modernism Week’s recognition of the architectural legacy of William F. Cody, his daughter, Catherine Cody, will make a special visit to Blue Skies during the tour. She will have an opportunity to revisit her father’s work, spend time with homeowners and meet guests while sharing in the celebration of Cody’s enduring contribution to desert modernism.

Today, this gated 55+ community continues to honor its storied past while embracing modern living. Experience the nostalgia of Bing Crosby’s celebrated desert retreat, explore its Hollywood history, and discover a fascinating chapter of William F. Cody’s architectural legacy—all within one of the Coachella Valley’s most distinctive communities.
