Beyond his eye-catching colors of the centerpiece ark and pews at Temple Isaiah, the Israeli-born sculptor and kinetic artist Yaacov Agam has been an important presence in midcentury Modernism.

The multi-media presentation will focus on artist Yaacov Agam's unique place in midcentury Modernism at the intersection of Kinetic Art, Op Art, Constructivism, color theory, public art and Jewish mystical thought. Ever experimenting with technology to bring the viewer 'beyond the visible' and the static, Agam described himself as a “visual rabbi”, emphasizing the Hebraic view of life as active, moving and constantly changing. In a single sentence: Agam takes the cool, geometric grammar of midcentury Modernism and makes it dance—kinetically, Jewishly and philosophically—so that the viewer’s movement becomes a kind of embodied commentary on an image that never quite settles into one fixed truth. The program includes an exhibition of a variety of Agam’s pieces.
