After two sell-out programs of architectural video tours of classic television homes, Marina Coates returns to Modernism Week with an all-new collection. This time she escorts us through stylish residences from the movies—most from the mid 20th century. And this time, interior design shares the spotlight, demonstrating principles you can apply in your own home.

Supported by live commentary, illuminating interviews, and a Q&A, we’ll visit residences made famous in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest, Disney’s The Parent Trap and Forbidden Planet, and Doris Day and Rock Hudson’s Pillow Talk. Architectural details will be revealed, selection and placement of furnishings will be explained and we’ll share lighting and color design secrets of production designers.

Honey, Let’s Go to the Movies! will include a program-within-a-program highlighting three homes from films shot in Palm Springs. Foremost among them is the striking John Lautner–designed Elrod House, brought to popular prominence in the 1971 James Bond classic, Diamonds Are Forever. Marina and host/producer Eric Chiel will welcome special guest Adele Cygelman for an extended look at this stunning residence. Arthur Elrod was the leading force in midcentury Palm Springs interior design and Adele is the go-to authority on anything Elrod. She authored Arthur Elrod: Desert Modern Design (2019, Gibbs Smith) and is producing Arthur Elrod: Desert Cool, a documentary film premiering this Modernism week on Sunday, February 15.

Eric Chiel created two previous productions in the “Honey” series, as well as Modernism Week interview programs with Anne Serling (daughter of Rod Serling), singer Ron Hicklin and last year’s Livin’ the 50s: A Myth America Pageant. On February 18 he’ll premiere Quirks, Kitsch & Curiosities: 100 Years of Palm Springs Eccentricity.
