Best of Midcentury Film Design: Multimedia Presentation and "Pillow Talk" Film Screening

Explore the trendsetting interiors, fashions and liberated romance of the film's successful interior designer in a Multimedia presentation followed by a screening of the restored 1959 classic.

This event is being held in the newly restored Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs, a 1936 architectural landmark and rare surviving example of an "atmospheric" theater in Spanish Colonial Revival village design.

PRE-SHOW COCKTAILS: No-host cocktail hour in the historic lobby of the Plaza Theatre.

MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION: The 1959 movie Pillow Talk inspired a new era in interior design, fashion and dating. This fascinating presentation will explore: the vibrant pastels and clean-lined furnishings of a midcentury interior designer and her chic tailored outfits and jewel-toned dresses; the assertive, bold decor with rough textures, dark colors and techno-gadgets of a swinging bachelor and his suave, urbane attire; and their liberated romance.

FILM-SCREENING: Pillow Talk is the hilarious tale of a successful interior designer (Doris Day) who contends with a phone party-line shared with a playboy songwriter (Rock Hudson). Sparks fly, and schemes unfold as the two trade quips and clever banter, turning a phone line tussle into the start of a glamorous, screwball romance.

HOST: This event is produced and hosted by the Film Society of Screwball Comedy.

PROCEEDS: A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation, a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity corporation.

ABOUT: The Film Society of Screwball Comedy is a Palm Springs-based nonprofit organization dedicated to the art, science and preservation of classic cinema. To learn more about its work and events, see filmsocietyofscrewballcomedy.
