Come tour Desert Lanai 4, an intimate condominium community designed by famed midcentury architect Charles Du Bois featuring his famous A-frame roofline.

Step inside Desert Lanai 4, an intimate, close-knit enclave that captures the ultimate 1960s resort lifestyle. Renowned midcentury architect Charles Du Bois designed four distinct Desert Lanai complexes, built by the celebrated Alexander Construction Company across four phases. Completed in 1966, this tour grants exclusive access to the fourth and final phase.

This distinct quadrant features just 16 single-story condominiums arranged around a sparkling central pool. With stunning, dramatic views of the San Jacinto Mountains framing the property, the expansive central lawn functions as one large, shared backyard where neighbors stroll open pathways to visit each other's patios. At one end of the pool sits a large, covered lanai, serving as the ultimate midcentury gathering spot for residents. Surrounding the water, the pool deck showcases meticulously restored, vintage Woodard patio furniture in the classic "Ionian" pattern—gleaming in its historic glory with glossy white powder-coated steel and elegant curved arms.

On this tour, you will step inside six private homes to see how individual owners have adapted these historic spaces to Modern living. Along the way, witness the dramatic architectural details that made Du Bois famous: the striking A-frame rooflines that plunge from peak to ground—affording the beauty of high ceilings and clerestory windows in a number of homes. Natural stone facades and classic midcentury breeze block patio dividers add to the 1960s design aesthetic that makes Desert Lanai 4 so unique. Often celebrated as "Aloha Houses," these homes perfectly blend Desert Modernism with dramatic Tiki and Polynesian-inspired flair.
