The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation will host a tour of historic “Morada La Estrella” designed by William Charles Tanner and built in 1932.

Imagined by architectural designer William Charles Tanner in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, “Morada La Estrella” was built in 1932 for businessman John Corson Snyder and his wife Estella. Upon entering the home’s grand hall, with its carved-wood trusses and exposed-beam cathedral ceiling, visitors are treated to many artful wood-and-metal details carried throughout the lavish residence.

Aside from the tennis court, the extensive grounds feature a large swimming pool, spa, and adjacent pergola. Exterior views of the home also showcase the terracotta-tiled roof and historic details around the windows and eaves. Original roof tiles still bear the maker’s name: the famous Gladding McBean company of Los Angeles. With the help of PSPF, the home was designated a Class 1 Historic Resource by the city of Palm Springs in May of 2026.

To learn more about William Charles Tanner and “Morada La Estrella,” consider attending homeowner Steve Scott’s presentation on the topic during PSPF’s Free Lecture Series on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The Palm Springs Preservation Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is “to educate and promote public awareness of the importance of preserving the historical resources and architecture of the city of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley area.” PSPF offers free membership as a public benefit.
