Canyon Springs Neighborhood Home Tour

The Canyon Springs community, nestled within the Indian Canyons Neighborhood of Palm Springs, stands as a testament to the collaboration between developer Richard McCarthy and renowned architect Laszlo E. Sandor. As the fourth of five condominium projects developed by the Canyon Site Corporation, Canyon Springs embodies the ethos of desert Modernism, with its sleek design and harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape. Planning Commission approval for the project, initially named Canyon South IV, was secured on October 27, 1976, with completion achieved in 1979. Sandor's journey from Budapest to Phoenix and eventually Palm Springs infused his architectural vision with a unique blend of influences, culminating in the distinctive design of Canyon Springs and other notable projects across the region.

Canyon Springs comprises nineteen residences accessed via Canyon South Drive, a private cul-de-sac marked by twin slump-stone pilasters. The community features eighteen duplexes sharing a common wall and one free-standing structure, each characterized by single-story, flat-roof buildings with high ceilings and expansive covered outdoor spaces. The residences, designed with two floorplan variations, offer three bedrooms and three baths, showcasing a seamless blend of indoor-outdoor living synonymous with desert Modernism. Six residences overlook a communal area with a pool and spa, while the remaining thirteen enjoy individual restructured-use common areas, allowing for the creation of private gardens, many featuring pools and spas.

As a first-time offering of the Modernism Week Neighborhood Home Tours, Canyon Springs invites visitors to experience the timeless elegance and innovative design that define Palm Springs' living. Come and explore 7 homes of this exceptional example of desert Modernism and discover the unique architectural vision of Laszlo E. Sandor.
