The Deepwell Estates in South Palm Springs traces its roots to the late 1920s when it was originally developed as sprawling ranch land. By the 1950s it had become a subdivision and it didn’t take long to attract a celebrity clientele looking to create their desert oasis. Deepwell is home to the William Holden Estate and it’s where actor Jerry Lewis and singer Carmen Miranda called home. Liberace built his first Palm Springs Home here as well as one for his mother. Deepwell is home to the Playboy Pad designed by Stan Sackley. Other architects who designed the homes here include E. Stewart Williams, Arthur Elrod and Hugh Kapture. Richard Harrison of Wexler & Harrison Architects chose to build his home in Deepwell too.

Interior designer Michael Norpell’s home is a rarity. It was on the last remaining lot of land that had never been built upon. That is until Sweet & Lee Construction paired up with William Petty to purchase it in the late 1960s. Michael’s home was built in 1974 in a California Brutalist style. Michael, who’s also a licensed landscape architect, did a full renovation of the home from the front exterior and landscaping to the new backyard pool and everything in between. He preserved its remarkable original architectural details and helped its overgrown landscape bloom into a chic desert resort oasis. Inside he paid homage to the home’s 70s aesthetic while melding it with iconic Palm Springs style for a result that’s bold, sexy and bursting with fun, vibrant style.
