For the first time, Modernism Week is offering the Art & Architecture Studio Tour. Palm Springs has been the home to important visual artists, sculptors and photographers since the early days of the 1920s and 30s. Today there continues to be a deep commitment by creative artists working in the region. For this studio tour, the homes and art studios of six local artists will be opened exclusively to ticket holders to this event. The artists will be present to talk to visitors about their work and answer questions. Their unique homes and studios, situated in various neighborhoods of Palm Springs, will be open to explore. Aside from their own works, they are also collectors of fascinating artworks by others. These six artists have been chosen both for the variety and quality of their works as well as for the stunning architecture of their homes and studios.

Here is a preview of the range of artists participating:

In the Historic Tennis Club resides a photographer with toeholds in the U.S. and Germany. His large-scale multi-paneled works depict light streaming into contemporary urban cathedrals such as train stations and museums.

Based in LA and in an amazing home overlooking all of Palm Springs, this prominent California Modernist’s work is inspired by Palm Springs desert landscapes and vivid skies. Her work also references earlier Modernist painters such as Agnes Pelton and Helen Lundeberg.

Originally from Minnesota, Tahquitz River Estates is home to this painter and former architect. His canvases reflect abstracted landscapes, strong geometric elements and perspective. Moody colors and horizons inspired by nature are important aspects of the work.

This artist’s first career was as a magazine art director in New York for publications including Andy Warhol’s Interview before embarking on his career as a fine artist and settling into a chic midcentury home and studio in Vista Las Palmas. He creates vivid, large dot-based portraits as well as classic landscape images.

This incredibly creative couple has converted a midcentury motel into their residence and studio. It could be shoes, bags, jewelry, collage/paintings or architecture, whatever they put their minds and hands to become transformed, fascinating and unique. Plus their collection of other artists’ works is also intriguing.

Captivated by Polynesian cultures, nature and marine life, this sculptor and landscape designer worked in San Francisco as a window designer and visual manager for Neiman Marcus prior to moving to Palm Springs, where he has created a stunning home, landscape and studio housing the Tiki Gods and various large carved ceramic works he builds. He was deeply influenced by the major ceramicist and painter Paul Bellardo.
