Many men ventured into the desert in search of fortune and health, accompanied by their wives and families. Some women arrived with their husbands, only to be abandoned, and were left to fend for themselves. A few women ventured into the desert alone, stayed alone, found solace and made it their lifelong home. These women embraced the desert, establishing businesses, acquiring property and amassing wealth. One of these women helped create the atmosphere for the architecture we are celebrating this week. You can't fully understand the story of Palm Springs without acknowledging the courage and resilience of the women who played a pivotal role in the city's creation.
