Cody’s Cody X PKS3: Art and Architecture Experience at the Cody Family Home

Using the 1954 William Cody family home as his canvas, Smith's light installation engages with the glass, light, and geometry of this iconic Palm Springs home. This tour presents a rare chance to explore Desert Modernist architect William Cody's personal residence while experiencing a temporary, site-specific art installation designed to interact with his indelible design.

Phillip K. Smith III, renowned for his expansive light-based artwork and site-specific installations, transforms the Cody family home into a dynamic canvas for light and color. The floor-to-ceiling reflective surfaces capture and mirror the surrounding architecture and desert landscape. As dusk falls, the installation shifts from pure reflection to a mesmerizing play of color, creating ethereal fields of light that shift and change as you move through Cody's masterful architecture.

Cody's home was a laboratory for his innovative ideas on architectural minimalism. His vision for the space, with its minimal structural elements, later became a hallmark of Desert Modernism. In this residence, Cody achieved his ultimate goal of structural purity, stripping the design down to its barest essentials.

The result of this is a deeply immersive and unforgettable fusion of art and architecture offering visitors an extraordinary experience at the intersection of these disciplines.

A portion of ticket proceeds benefits Modernism Week a 501 c3 non-profit organization.
