"Palm Springs, Tuned In: A Historic Retrospective On Music in the Coachella Valley"

Music is our time machine. Our history is full of music, and our music is full of history. Join us for Palm Springs, Tuned In: A Historic Retrospective On Music in the Coachella Valley.

From the Cahuilla to Coachella, from Sinatra to Manilow, the Coachella Valley has served as a muse and sanctuary for countless music legends.

Historian and Plaza Theatre Foundation Board member Jim Cook will share a fascinating tale of how music and musicians were key to the development of Palm Springs. Many music industry legends stayed and played here, and the town’s swanky midcentury nightclubs offered amazing nightly shows. Learn more about these legends, including the surprising local origin of the song Nature Boy. The beautifully restored Palm Springs Plaza Theatre is the setting for this talk, where you can learn about the memory, the melody, the sung, the unsung, and the stories behind the music that continues to inspire Palm Springs. Brian Ray, guitarist for Paul McCartney and former Etta James music director and guitarist, will do the opening introduction for Palm Springs, Tuned In: A Historic Retrospective On Music in the Coachella Valley.

Copies of the new Desert Dream to Silver Screen book that details the fascinating history of the Theatre will be available for purchase.

A portion of the proceeds benefit the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation.
