El Rancho Vista Estates Modernism Home Tour

Step back in time and experience the enduring charm of El Rancho Vista Estates, where midcentury Modern design meets the vibrant spirit of Palm Springs. Originally marketed as offering "Fun in the Sun," this iconic neighborhood, nestled just east of Palm Springs International Airport, continues to embody that joyful, sun-soaked lifestyle. With bold color accents, Modernist rooflines, clerestory windows, and decorative concrete block walls, these homes evoke the allure of a classic California desert resort.

El Rancho Vista Estates, developed by Roy Fey between 1959 and 1962, was created as an affordable yet stylish getaway for middle-class families. Architects Donald Wexler and Richard A. Harrison designed three unique floorplans—The Bermuda, The Capri, and The Casa Blanca—to fully utilize the distinct lot shapes, with some homes oriented "sideways" for a bold touch. The tour will also include a unique home designed by Wexler in 1959 for the Mattel family, honoring their iconic Barbie doll and adding a special midcentury Modern flair.

Today, this remarkable neighborhood, featuring the highest concentration of Wexler/Harrison homes, remains true to its midcentury origins. Tour the interiors of residences that honor the architectural integrity of Wexler and Harrison's designs while incorporating Modern upgrades that epitomize the Palm Springs lifestyle. You'll be treated to secluded patios and poolscapes that make the most of expansive lots and stunning mountain views. Homeowners will be on hand to share insights and answer questions as you explore all three classic floorplans.

Don't miss a leisurely stroll through the bocce ball park at the neighborhood's east end, and be sure to capture a perfect photo op in front of the iconic "Palm Springs" monument sign, located at the park's northeast corner.
