Architect Laszlo E. Sandor's Canyon Springs returns to Modernism Week, showcasing seven homes featuring sleek Desert Modernism, distinctive design and seamless indoor-outdoor living.

Nestled within Palm Springs’ Indian Canyons neighborhood, Canyon Springs is a distinctive example of 1970s Desert Modernism, designed by architect Laszlo E. Sandor, AIA, in collaboration with developer Richard McCarthy. Originally known as Canyon South IV, the community was approved in 1976 and completed in 1979 as the fourth of five condominium developments by the Canyon Site Corporation.

Canyon Springs is an intimate enclave of just 19 residences along the private Canyon South Drive. Primarily arranged as duplexes, the single-story homes feature flat rooflines, high ceilings, generous proportions and expansive covered outdoor living areas. Two floorplans offer three bedrooms and three baths, with architecture designed to embrace the desert landscape and Palm Springs’ celebrated indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Some residences overlook the community pool and spa, while others feature private gardens, pools and beautifully reimagined outdoor spaces.

Born in Budapest, Hungary, Sandor trained as an architectural engineer before immigrating to the United States in 1958. After working in Phoenix, including with Dailey Associates and noted Modernist Al Beadle, he relocated to the Palm Springs area in 1965 and joined the office of celebrated architect William F. Cody. Sandor later established his own practice and frequently collaborated with renowned interior designer Steve Chase. His residential work throughout the Coachella Valley is recognized for its clean geometry, deep overhangs, dramatic relationship to the landscape and sophisticated interpretation of Desert Modernism.

For this special Modernism Week Neighborhood Home Tour, guests will step inside seven Canyon Springs residences, experiencing a variety of interiors, private gardens, pools and outdoor living spaces while discovering the architectural vision of Laszlo E. Sandor and the enduring appeal of this rarely seen Palm Springs community.
